We think church should unconditionally love everyone, everywhere.
We think church is a place to explore personal faith journeys.
We think church should allow anyone to enter and find their place in the community it offers.
RETHINK CHURCH!
At First United Methodist Church, this is who we are:
We believe faith should be based on hope and not on fear.
We believe that people should think for themselves and be encouraged to question.
We respect a variety of beliefs and backgrounds without a forced doctrine.
We believe the expression of faith is through helping and caring for others.
We believe we should leave the world a better place than we found it.
We welcome you no matter what you believe or don't believe.
We welcome you wherever you are on your own faith journey.

The programs and experiences we provide to help people grow in faith and understanding include, but are not limited to, informative, challenging Sunday sermons meant to challenge our ways of thinking or increase our understanding of the teachings of Jesus and Old Testament stories; Adult Forum, which explores topics of interest to attendees. Currently the topic of study is a series in the history of the early church, the battle over the nature of Christ, Humanity and Divinity. Sunday School class for the young ones completes the actual programs.
Outreach programs include, but are not limited to, an annual ethnic potluck dinner that includes our Muslim and Jewish neighbors; monthly Munch and Mingle dinners, often attended by people who do not make our Sunday services; our KIT (Keep in Touch) Card ministry for congregation members and shut-ins; our visitation for shut-ins mission; and participation in other programs in partnership with other community groups. These include monthly food and non-food collections for the local Food Pantry; working with the Salvation Army on their Christmas toy drive; providing a home for the meetings of Mothers Out Front who work to preserve the planet for future generations; and increasing awareness of various causes through our Finding Voice forums.
We do have various groups using our church building. These include Meals on Wheels (for over 20 years; FUMC is a sponsor of this local unit of the national Meals on Wheels program), Boy Scouts (home to and sponsor of for almost 100 years), Ultimate Cheerleading Teams (a program for young girls to teenagers building confidence, team spirit and empowerment), Recourse Employment (a program for parolees and ex-convicts to reenter the work force and learn necessary life skills to keep them “straight’), Mothers Out Front (mission: To create and contribute to a "renewable energy" future, one home at a time and to make sure the planet earth is cleaner and greener for our children and our grandchildren.), various dance groups and music groups, including Valley Folk Music concerts.
